STL Food Waste Challenge

Did you know that food waste globally releases more carbon emissions than commercial air travel?

Many people are unaware about the amount of perfectly good food wasted every day, let alone specifically in St. Louis. To find exact answers, we partnered with NRDC (Natural Resources Defense Council) to create a St. Louis Region Food Waste & Rescue Potential Report.

After the report recorded astonishing amounts of wasted food and many opportunities to rescue it in the future, we decided to combat the issue and host a regional Food Waste Challenge!

Introducing the STL Food Waste Challenge: a campaign to spread awareness about the impact of food waste, provide resources to help you reduce yours, and build a citywide culture of people taking the steps necessary to save food.

We're partnering with 8 Green Dining Alliance members who've agreed to take the lead.  For the month of October, they'll use a combination of predetermined strategies to decrease their food waste amounts from their audit in September. In early November, we'll conduct another round of audits and report the results, along with awards & acknowledgements! Read more about the Challenge below.
