Earth Day Half-Birthday Week

Join us for a week of celebration including our Green Curbside Hop, Virtual Earth Day Half-Birthday Festival, and Give Back to the Earth Cleanups!

Grab your tickets now for the October 15th Green Curbside Hop, a socially-distanced treasure hunt through the streets of Maplewood in search of delectable treats from a variety of Green Dining Alliance restaurants. Participants will also receive a gift bag full of items from St. Louis Earth Day Festival vendors (including portable metal straws, wildflower seeds, and much more). Join us Sunday, October 18th, for an afternoon of engaging environmental thought leaders and activists addressing the impacts of climate change and what you can do about it.

1pm: Rev. Lorren Buck, Executive Director and Minister of InPower Institute, will share "Ecowomanist and The Great Cosmic Mother."

2pm: Zeke Hausfather, Director of Climate and Energy at The Breakthrough Institute, is a climate scientist and energy systems analyst and will share "What May Happen to the Climate This Century, and What We Can Do About It."

3pm: David Lobbig, Curator of Environmental Life at the Missouri History Museum, and Myra Jackson, Global Lead for the 2021 Global Freshwaters Summit, will discuss "Our River Conversations: Honoring the Great Rivers." 

4pm: Marlow Baines, Youth Director at Earth Guardians, will present "Community and the Climate Crisis - A Youth Leader's Perspective."

Our speakers will share insights and powerful action steps to move toward the future we want to see.

Give Back on Earth Day's Half-Birthday

Subaru gives back by sponsoring three socially-distanced volunteer cleanups around the St. Louis region for Earth Day's Half-Birthday. Gloves and bags will be provided, and each volunteer will receive a Festival Gift Bag. Registration and face masks required! Please register here.

  • Saturday, October 17th, 9am - at Marquette Park, in collaboration with Dutchtown South Community Corporation's "So Fresh, So Clean, So Creative" program.
  • Saturday, Oct 17th, 1pm - at the North County Agricultural Education Center, in collaboration with A Red Circle. Join the cleanup for a mini teach-in on North County environmental justice issues and Mayor Terry Epps on his green vision for Pine Lawn.
  • Sunday, Oct 18th, 9am - at Deer Creek Park, Webster Groves.

This virtual program gave solutions to decreasing food waste in the context of Reducing, Reusing, and Recycling. For Recycle, Matt from BLH Farm presented on their Bokashi and composting processes. Kitchen House Coffee demonstrated creative options for using leftovers for Reuse. Finally, Margaret Lilly of the St. Louis County Department of Public Health presented strategies for Reducing Your Food Waste at home. Check out the entire program here!

Growing Health in your Backyard

In our latest virtual program you learned from local growers within our Local Food Movement, including Tyrean "Heru" Lewis of Heru Urban FarmingJill Duncan of Loving Roots Urban Farm, and Matt Lebon of Custom Foodscaping, who spoke on a panel about what they are doing, how you can support them, and tips for you. Crystal Stevens and Alex Queathem, co-founders of the Tend and Flourish School of Botanicals, presented Introduction to Community Herbalism. They discussed the ethics of herbalism, the importance of creating cultivated ecologies in our own backyards, herbal actions, native medicinals, and backyard herbalism.
